JAMMU, Mar 25: Chinar Art Foundation’s (CAF) presentation of Meera Kant’s Hindi play ‘Ant Hazir Ho’, at Abhinav Theatre, here today, came out as one of the high points of the ongoing Festivals of Plays 2020-2021, being organized by Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages.
Written by Meera Kant and directed by Sachin Dhar, the play focuses on the situations when the home instead of being a symbol of safety and security becomes a dangerous zone where the protector becomes the predator. The play which moves ahead of domestic violence and rape is about the slow, painful death of human values.
The highlight of today’s performance was the manner in which the amateur actors lit up the stage with competent performances of multiple characters that ranged from the fun-loving university scholars to the female characters whose souls are scarred for having lost faith in all those lofty human values. Today’s impactful show owed its success to the thoughtful stage design in which a number of locations were created without hindering the actors’ movements. Light design and the soulful live background score and songs artistically imbued the scenes with emotions especially the Karuna rasa.
Nazuk Bhagat who exhibiting versatility successfully in enacted multiple roles such as child Roli, old saas /bahua/ cchoti/ university student, received a standing ovation from the audience. Others who impressed with their performances included veteran actor Kusum Dhar as old lady, Ritu Mehra as Shilpa/Badi, Sunil Koul as Sudhanshu/Papa, Sachin Sharma as Deeraj/Babu ji, Udit Sagar as Irfan/ Amma/Saxena Uncle, Himanshu Bhat as Avinash,/chai wala.
The singers were Vishal Pandita and Shivani Kaul, make-up by Sunny Mujoo, choreography by Ritu Mehra, sets and property by Veerji Sumbli, lights by Manoj Bhat, Sazi and Pankaj and sound by Lokesh.
Tomorrow, ‘The Performers’ will stage Vijay Tendulkar’s play ‘Pancchi Aise Aate Hain’.
