JAMMU, May 20: First J&K Medical Science Congress was today inaugurated by Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Dr Pawan Kotwal at Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences & Hospital, Sidhra
This two-day congress is jointly sponsored by  J&K Science, Technology and Innovation Council  and Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences & Hospital, Sidhra.
In his welcome address organising secretary, Dr Pavan Malhotra while briefing the delegates said that congress will be a memorable, highly educational, and ‘not-to-be-missed’ event and hoped that this congress will help experts of one specialty to interact with other specialists and obtain the knowledge on the topics of common interest. He laid stress on Science and Technology’s significant contribution to the evolution of human society. He pointed out that  2010-20 has been declared as the “Decade of Innovations”.
Dr RP Kudyar, Principal  while welcoming the gathering also thanked Deptt. of Science & Technology for  giving chance to ASCOMS to organize this first ever Medical Science Congress.
A souvenir was released on the occasion by all the dignitaries and convener Souvenir Committee Dr Ravinder Gupta.
While delivering the inaugural address Dr Kotwal appreciated the efforts of Science, Technology and Innovation Council, Deptt. of Science and Technology, Govt of J&K and ASCOMS & Hospital, for organizing this multi-specialty maiden event. He also conferred life time achievement award in Medical Science on Dr Syed Naseer Ahmed Shah, former Principal Govt Medical College, Srinagar  and Dr SL Verma, former Principal,  Govt. Medical College, Jammu and Former Director-Principal, Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences & Hospital, Sidhra.
This congress was organized with an aim to bring together the national and international medical scientists, Medical educationists and other medical professionals to gather  and exchange their views on latest developments in the field.
About 450 delegates from India and abroad participated in the scientific deliberations.  DK Batra, joint secretary ASCOMS felicitated the chief guest. Dr Lovi Padha, convener, Scientific Committee presented the vote of thanks.
Eminent among the speakers were Professor MS Khuroo eminent Gastroenterologist, Padamshree Dr Ashok Vaid from Medanta  Medicity, Gurgaon, Dr Sandeep Kaushal, DMC, Ludhiana,  Dr Samir Malhotra from PGIMER Chandigarh, Dr Bishan Radotra, Neuropathologist from PGIMER and Dr Satinder Gomber, Professor & Head, Anesthesiology from GMC, Chandigarh.
