This has reference to the article ‘Media’s growing concern about women DE June.
There is no doubt that media has played an important role towards empowerment of India. The way media handled the case Nirbhaya-the girl who was molested by goons in crime capital of India some three months back is praiseworthy.
It was because of media pressure that the Government was forced to enact a new legislation for protecting the interests of women.
However, role of media does not end here. It has to be proactive to bring attention of the Government towards issues faced by women in rural areas where they remain unheeded.
Even after six decades of independence women in villages live a wretched life. They do not have a voice in policy making at home or village level. Though may women Sarpances have come to the forefront and are playing a pay role in socio-economic development of the village. But women in villages numerous odds to live a dignified and respected life.
