JAMMU, Feb 22: Jammu Mayor, Rajinder Sharma on Wednesday chaired a meeting in which Deputy Mayor, Baldev Singh Billawaria and all the three Chairmen of different Standing Committees of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) were present.
The Mayor informed the meeting that the much talked Property Tax in J&K has been imposed by the Administrative Council of the Union Territory and not by the JMC.
He said that aspirations of the people of Jammu are supreme and an urgent General House Meeting (GHM) of JMC shall be held on Friday to discuss the Property Tax.
The Mayor said that the GHM will also discuss who shall be exempted from the Property Tax and what shall be the procedure of levying this Tax.
“JMC Commissioner, Rahul Yadav shall give power point presentation to clear misconceptions about Property Tax in the House,” Rajinder Sharma said adding: “Views and concerns of JMC Councillors shall be collected and a memorandum will be prepared based on these and the same shall be sent to the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha; BJP J&K president, Ravinder Rqaina and BJP national president, J.P Nadda for accommodating the concerns of the Councillors.”
He also said that aspirations of public and Councillors should be fulfilled and everything shall be done for that.
“The Administrative Council has superseded the powers of elected body of JMC and has imposed the Property Tax while no resolution for that was introduced in any of the GHMs of JMC,” the Mayor maintained.
