JAMMU, July 6: Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Mayor, Chander Mohan Gupta along with Deputy Mayor, Purnima Sharma today reviewed the renovation work of Ponds at Channi Himmat and its adjoining areas in Ward No. 51.
Speaking on the occasion the Mayor said that government is taking keen interest and doing whatever possible to identify, save and renovate Ponds wherever they exist.
“It is the duty of every citizen to cooperate with the government in saving these water bodies from encroachers for the welfare of society and future generations,” he said.
Gupta also said that JMC has already sanctioned Rs. 25 lakh for renovation of these water bodies in each JMC Ward.
“If need arises more amount will be allotted for further beautification of Ponds,” he maintained.
The Mayor further said that these water bodies will be charged with the help of rain water and there will be a provision of tube well near these water bodies.
“There will be plantation all around the ponds along with walkway for the people and provision for cycle track. A provision for play station for children and benches for sitting shall also be there around the ponds,” Gupta said adding that in the first phase, the boundary of the water body shall be demarcated with the help of retaining wall so as to discourage encroachments.
JMC Councilors Raj Kumar and Neeraj Puri; BJP leader, Mohit Mahajan, Executive Engineer, Anil Gupta and others were also present on the occasion.
