Mayor inspects functioning of street lights

JAMMU, May 20: In a new initiative to take strict note of public problems and to redress the issues confronting the people of Jammu, Mayor Rajinder Sharma along with officers of the Urban Local Body ventured into streets at night to personally check the functioning of street lights in Ward Number 1 of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC).
Mayor in a statement said this is a new chapter under changed work-culture in JMC and working style of the Mayor the inspiration of which has been derived from the extraordinary working style of PM Narendra Modi.
The Mayor was accompanied by Commissioner JMC, Superintending Engineer JPDCL, Jammu Circle along with Executive Engineer, JPDCL Div I, II and III; Executive Engineer, Electrical Division JMC, with whole staff and the whole EESL team and locals of the area.
The Mayor checked each and every street light in the Ward and found 8 lights were not functioning.
The Mayor gave instructions to the concerned officers to get these eight lights restored immediately and next week he will again see if they were functional or not.
Finding the Ward beautifully lit people of the area rejoiced and had relief.
The work of restoring the street lights was started three days back and steel wires, connectors and other needed things were provided in advance.
Talking to reporters the Mayor said that since the year 2018 when the elected body of JMC took over the local body has installed over 91304 street lights in the city and laid 1700 km new cable (L Teb cable 2cX16 sq.mm) along with 182608 IPC connectors.
He said that in next step the inspection of street lights will be done at Ward number 16 or 47 and then the system will be followed from top to bottom Wards in series.
“This initiative will give a great relief to the people and will be there from 8.30 pm-9.30 pm,” the Mayor informed.
