SAMBA, Jan 31: The police foiled the attempt of some villagers to smuggle timber of recently felled green trees in Purmandal area of Samba district.
The police party from Purmandal during raid found that nearly 80 trees of Shesham had been felled by one Banmali Ram of Katwalta. He had permission of felling only ten trees from his own land. But he also felled trees from Forest land. The timber was seized and a case registered against him.
The police also found that 70-80 trees had been felled by one Hashim Rasool at Queli village in Purmandal. The timber dumped at one place was also seized. A case FIR 3/2013 was registered against him The police has intensified nakas in the area to curb smuggling and green felling in this belt. The police said such a massive green felling is not possible with out the connivance of local field Forest officials.
