Srinagar, June 6: Security forces today launched massive searches in Bhawan Watser forest area of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district while seven persons were injured in two blasts in Kashmir.
Army and Special Operation Group (SOG) cordoned off Bhawan Watser village near forests and conducted searches. “Some probing shots were fired by the security forces, however, there was no response “, police said.
The cordon and searches were launched after security forces received information about presence of a militant group in the area.
In the meantime, police in South Kashmir detained two persons including brother of a militant in connection with an attack at Anantnag that left two cops including an officer dead.
Special Operation Group (SOG) during a raid picked up two youth from their houses at Khudwani area of Kulgam district today. The detained youth have been identified as Waseem Ahmad Lone and Parvez Ahmad Mattoo. Both the persons were initially taken to SOG camp Kulgam where from later they were handed over to Cargo Srinagar for further questioning, the sources said.
Parvez Ahmad Mattoo, one of the two detained persons, is the brother of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant, Junaid Ahmad.
Four non-local labourers were injured in a mysterious blast at Sonamarg tourist resort of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district today.
Police said that the labourers were working with Border Roads Organisation and were injured when a low intensity blast occurred in Main Market Sonamarg.
He said the injured persons were immediately rushed to Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura and are undergoing treatment.
In another blast, four cops and three paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were injured today after a shell went off inside a police vehicle in Main Town of Pulwama district in South Kashmir.
A police official said a police vehicle was standing near Bus Stand in the town when suddenly a blast occurred inside the vehicle resulting in injuries to at least seven security men.
The injured cops have been identified as Ubaid Ahmad, Irshad Ahmad, Danish Farooq and Aqib Aman while as the paramilitary troopers have been identified as Rupesh Orum, Jagdeesh Paul and Ikash Chand of CRPF.
The blast created panic in the area and people rushed towards safer places. The injured forces men were shifted to District Hospital Pulwama for treatment where their condition is stated to be stable.
