Massive searches at over 3 dozen places in 7 distts

JAMMU, Feb 22: Security forces today launched massive anti-terror operations at over three dozen places across seven districts of the Jammu region as part of area domination exercise and ascertain hideouts of the terrorists to eliminate them and track down their associates including the Over Ground Workers (OGWs).

This is for the second time when Jammu Police in association with Army and paramilitary forces have launched search operations at such a large scale in the Jammu region.
The districts where search operations were undertaken by the security personnel include Jammu, Rajouri, Poonch, Udhampur, Kathua, Doda and Kishtwar.
The operations were launched over suspicious movements in some parts and as part of an area domination exercise in other places. No contact has been established with the terrorists so far, the officials said.
Operations were going on when the last reports of suspicious activities were received, the officials said, adding searches are being conducted at over three dozen places.
According to officials, a search operation was started at Maidaan Mohalla in Sangiote area of Gursai in Poonch district after two suspected foreign terrorists were found roaming under the cover of darkness late Friday night.
Security forces also launched a cordon and search operation in Mohalla Qasba, Allapir and Jaalian in Mandi and Mankote in Poonch and Dera Ki Gali and adjoining areas besides parts of Sunderbani and Nowshera sectors in nearby Rajouri district.
A search is underway at 13 places in Poonch-Rajouri and 18 places in the higher reaches of Udhampur, Kathua, Kishtwar and Doda districts with a focus on Khaderan forest.
There is also a search operation going on in Keri, Bhattal and adjoining areas in Akhnoor sector of Jammu district.
There have been reports about presence of the terrorists in upper reaches of Doda, Kishtwar, Udhampur, Kathua, Rajouri, Poonch and Reasi. However, the terrorists keep on shifting their hideouts in the mountains. While exact number of the terrorists is anybody’s guess, the security forces have launched massive operations to eliminate them to ensure that they don’t manage to strike again.
During past few days, there have been skirmishes going on between Indo-Pak troops on the Line of Control (LoC) amid reports that the Pakistan army was trying to push terrorists into the Indian side. However, all such intrusion bids have been thwarted by the troops.
An Army Captain and a soldier were martyred in Akhnoor sector on the LoC while eight Pakistani soldiers are reported to have been killed. Four jawans of the Indian rmy have also been injured.
