Massive “Green Vote” plantation drive launched

KATHUA, Nov 11: District Administration Kathua today launched a unique plantation drive “Green Vote –One Sapling for One Voter” with an aim of planting more than one lakh saplings in a period of one month with public participation and inter-departmental convergence and coordination.
The scheme was launched by District Election Officer, Kathua, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary.
In continuation of the series of mega events under green vote plantation drive under SVEEP, Kathua Forest Division organized a massive plantation drive in its premises under the overall supervision of Vijay Kumar Verma, Divisional Forest Officer, Kathua.
Dr Bharat Bhushan, Chief Executive Officer, Lakhanpur Sarthal Development Authority, who is also the Nodal Officer of District SVEEP team, Kathua and Anshul Garg, Assistant Returning Officer were present on the occasion.
A large number of people representing various non-governmental organizations and functionaries of Panchayats participated in the function. The function started with planting of saplings by Dr Bharat Bhushan, Chief Executive Officer, Lakhanpur Sarthal Development Authority, Anshul Garg, (ARO Kathua) and Vijay Kumar Verma, Divisional Forest Officer, Kathua.
Vijay Kumar Verma, Divisional Forest Officer, Kathua told the gathering that more than 45000 saplings will be planted by Forest Department across the district  as a part of SVEEP campaign in association with Social Forestry and sister wings of Forest Department, NGOs and Panchayats.
The speakers deliberated  in length on the importance of voting  and how  it helps  in choosing  a right  candidate  for the progress of the nation. They said that it is the responsibility of all the citizens to cast their votes and also encourage others to exercise their right to vote.
