NEW DELHI, June 22: Addressing a rally of youth activists connected with “Clean Yamuna” campaign (“Yamuna Swachchta Abhiyan”) in the North-East Delhi area of the union capital here today, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs and Sports, MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh said that a mass movement is required to clean all the rivers, including Yamuna on the same lines as it has been done to clean Ganga and some other rivers. For this purpose, the children and youth are the most suitable medium, he said, because they are impressionable, committed and honest, as a result of which, not only they are capable of carrying forward such a campaign with sincerity, but are also capable of motivating their parents and elders in the family.
Complimenting the local Member of Parliament and BJP Leader Manoj Tiwari for having initiated this campaign, Dr Jitendra Singh said, it is a very visionary idea because this will also serve as a mass contact programme for the organization. He also appreciated Tiwari for having associated the “Clean Yamuna” campaign with a Cricket Tournament for youth and hoped that this initiative will also serve the additional purpose of discovering several hidden talents and skills among the youth.
In a lighter vein, he told the youth present on the occasion, “you are lucky to get a win-win bargain because, while learning the merits of keeping Yamuna clean and simultaneously also playing cricket, you will also have the opportunity of picking up some singing talent from a young music icon like Manoj Tiwari who also happens to be a popular Bhojpuri singer”.
While offering every possible support on behalf of Government of India and the Department of Youth Affairs for the laudable campaign launched by Manoj Tiwari and his colleagues, Dr Jitendra Singh said that soon, he will arrange a meeting of the local representatives with Government officials to work out how best the voluntary efforts of the citizens can be carried forward and what more can be done by way of developing a stadium or a youth centre to enable the youngsters to realize their talent and groom it. He said, he will ensure that every youth gets opportunity depending upon his talent and hardwork without any favouritism or nepotism, whatsoever.
