JAMMU, Dec 14: Tearful adieu was accorded to the two cops from Jammu province, who attained martyrdom in a terrorist attack on Police bus in Zewan on outskirts of Srinagar yesterday, as their last rites were performed today with full State honour at their respective native villages.
Wreath laying ceremony and burial of the martyrs, Assistant Sub-Inspector Ghulam Hassan Bhat and Selection Grade Constable Shafiq Ahmad Mirza were performed at their respective native villages Chuchattar, tehsil Rajgarh in Ramban district and Mamankote in tehsil Chassana, Reasi district. Senior officers from Police as well as Civil administration took part in the wreath laying ceremony and paid tributes to the martyred cops. Besides officers and prominent persons, hundreds of mourners flocked to the native villages of the martyrs for according last salute to the brave hearts, who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
ASI Ghulam Hassan Bhat and SGCt Shafiq Ahmad Mirza were among 14 cops of J&K Police, who were fired upon by the militants at Zewan Rangreth in Srinagar , yesterday evening and these two succumbed to their injuries at hospital after some time.
Ghulam Hassan Bhat (58), son of Late Wali Mohd of village Chuchattar, Rajgarh in district Ramban, is survived by his wife Sahrifa Begum and five children, including a son serving in Indian Army (17-JAKLI).
The martyred cop was laid to rest with full State honour. A Guard of Honour was presented to the departed soul by District Police Ramban. People from all walks of life from the adjoining area attended the funeral and gave their last salute to the martyr.
Among the officers, who attended the last rites of the martyr, included Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Musarat-Ul-Islam; SP Ramban P D Nitya; SSP Doda Mumtaz Ahmed, CO IRP 16th Bn Ramban, Amit Gupta; SP Ops Doda, Raj Kumar; Additional SP Doda Master Poppsy, Addl SP Ramban, Rajni Sharma; Tehsildar Ramban Raman Kumar; Major Parveen Sharma of 12RR; DySP Hqrs Doda, Jaswant Singh; DySP Hqrs Ramban, Pardeep Sen; DySP DAR Doda, Shoket Ali; Assistant Commandant 84 Bn CRPF, Abdul Latief, I/C PP Rajgarh and other officers of Police/Civil administration.
Similarly, wreath laying ceremony and last rites of Shafiq Ahmad Mirza from Mamankote, Chassana were performed at his native village amid Guard of Honour to the martyr.
Shafiq Ahmad Mirza is survived by his wife and five school going children, including two daughters. His 7-year old son was accompanied by SSP Reasi during the wreath laying ceremony.
Earlier, DDC Chairman Saraf Singh Nag; DC Reasi, Indu Chib; SSP Reasi Shailender Singh; ex Minister Ajay Nanda and senior functionaries laid floral wreaths on the mortal remains and paid tributes to the martyr at Police Lines, Reasi after his body reached Reasi.
