Martyr Pawan Singh to be cremated with full military honours today

KATHUA, May 24: The mortal remains of Havaldar Pawan Kumar of 29 Assam Rifles who attained his martyrdom along with six other Army men at Jouti in Manipur on May 22 will be consigned to flames at his native village in Khank P/O Chakra in Hiranagar tehsil of Kathua district tomorrow at 1130 hours with full military honours.
The body of Pawan Singh had to reach Pathankot air base this evening wherefrom it was to be carried to his native village in Hiranagar. However due to delay in arrival of the body at Air base Pathankot it will be taken to native village tomorrow morning for cremation.
Pal of gloom had descended on entire village after hearing the news of that a son of the soil has attained martyrdom in an ambush at Manipur. The villagers first could not believe this and the news came as a rude shock to them. Pawan Singh had left his home to join his duties on May 10 last month after he had come on leave to perform the last rites of his mother Attar Devi who died two months back.
Pawan Singh is survived by his father, Baldev Singh, wife Bindo and two children who include eight year old Ansh Rajput and six year old Palk Rajput. The Ansh and Palk are yet to reconcile with fate accompli as they had never dreamt that their father will met such a sudden end.
As the family met such a tragedy two days back but no one from administration bothered to visit the residence of the martyr for courtesy sake and console the family members.
Jaswant Singh uncle of the martyr told Excelsior that though the incident took place two days back, no one from the administration bothered to visit the family. “This is the behavior of our Government towards the martyrs who lay down their lives for nation’’, he added.
It may be recalled that six army men attained martyrdom in an militant ambush at Manipur on May 22. They included Subedar BK Sharma from Himachal Pradesh, Hav Surjeet Barla from Jharkhand, Rifleman Mahesh Gurung from Uttrakhand, Rifleman AK Pandey from Bihar, Rifleman Pawan Kumar from J&K and Rifleman Bhupinder Singh from Himachal Pradesh.
