JAMMU, Apr 10: To express solidarity with the agitating students of NIT Srinagar, Team Jammu today took out a march in the old city amidst raising of patriotic slogans and carrying National Tricolour. Parents of some Jammu based students, studying at NIT Srinagar also joined the march.
The march took off from the historical Mubarak Mandi complex and passed through different bazaars before culminating at City Chowk where it turned into a rally, which was addressed by prominent citizens and presidents of Bazar Associations.
“NIT issue is not an administrative problem but an issue to restore Nation’s Pride in the NIT Campus. Students who dared to hoist national flag were ruthlessly beaten up by some black sheep in the J&K Police and national flag was snatched from them”, said Zorawar Singh Jamwal, chairman of the Team Jammu while addressing the rally.
“From the City Chowk, which is witness to the many historical movements under the leadership of legends like Pandit Prem Nath Dogra, Vaid Vishno Dutt and Thakur Baldev Singh, I assure all nationalist NIT students that Jammu is with them in this cause”, Zorawar Singh said and offered all kind of support to the brave students of NIT.
The Team Jammu leader also demanded judicial probe by a sitting judge to fix responsibilities on the cops who inflicted brutalities on the non-local students, hoisting National Tricolour and chanting pro-India slogans on the campus. It was also demanded that judicial probe should be time framed and certain faculty members of NIT, Kashmir who have been accused by the striking students for harassing them should also be exposed.
Meanwhile, the State Chairman J&K Human Rights Watch, B L Kapoor, in a statement issued today, has said that the NIT problem in Kashmir is not the problem of students only but is linked to whole of the country people as well as the Indian nation in many aspects. However, he cautioned that there are a few groups or people who create problems and add fuel to the fire for their vested interest only. “Each and every issue is tried to link with Pakistan so that the issue is given out and given different shape which is condemnable,” he added and suggested that the people should use their own wit and avoid to be swayed by vested interest for our future generation.
Aman Kalsotra, a social activist and secretary of Sky High India Social Organization, has reacted sharply on the incident at NIT campus Srinagar and demanded high level inquiry to identify the culprits behind curtain to restore peace, confidence and faith of student community.
While addressing a gathering of intellectuals, academicians, social activists and others, Mr Kalsotra also appealed the people to maintain communal harmony at every cost and cautioned that vested interests should not be allowed to disturb peace and brotherhood. He particularly appealed the student community and politicians to come forward jointly and make the situation normal.
