KATHUA, July 4: Dr Manohar Lal Sharma, former Minister, convened a meeting of prominent citizens, sarpanches, panches and Congress party cadres in village Durang of tehsil Billawar to discuss the ongoing struggle in getting district status for Billawar.
It was decided unanimously that the fight for district should be intensified to seek the support of the people belonging to every nook and corner of Billawar sub division and areas adjoining it. It was also decided to launch a signature campaign to seek support of common men of area.
Dr Sharma said that the sub Division Billawar has sufficient grounds and merits to fulfill all the requirements to establish full-fledged district. He said that there are six tehsils, eight blocks, fifteen niabats adjoining to centrally located Billawar Sub Division Headquarter. He further said that by keeping in view the population, geographical area and distance from exiting district Kathua, Billawar has enough ground to be a district.
All participants in the meeting resolved to whole heartily support this cause in the interest of general public of Billawar and fight till its logical conclusion.
Dr Sharma said that the BJP-PDP Government and DyCM Dr Nirmal Kumar Singh are totally working against the interest of Billawar and always support and Basholi in every matter. The people of Billawar feel cheated and betrayed by the BJP and Dy CM Nirmal Kumar Singh. He is trying to shift some important offices from Billawar to Basholi to create strong base for district.
Dr Sharma said that DyCM has deliberately stopped the posting of Tehsildars at Gurah Kalyal and Lohi Malhar and Naib Tehsildars at Dher-Phinter and Sukrala-Mata Niabats.
Prominent amog those who spoke in meeting and supported this important demand were Budhi Singh, Kamal Kishore Khajuria, Sham Sapolia, Romesh Sapolia, Nirintar Sharma, Ramal Singh, Master Abdul Rasheed, Ram Lal Bhatti and Deepak.
People of the area apprised Dr Sharma about their sufferings and day to day problems due to non availability of drinking water, electricity and sugar and ration in sale depots and bad condition of roads. Public also accused the Government over rise in corruption open loot in Government offices.
