UDHAMPUR, May 1: Showing deep concern over the recent hike in toll tax rates at Ban Toll Plaza, former MLA & NPP president Balwant Singh Mankotia today called on Project Director NHAI at Jammu and submitted him a memorandum seeking revision of the toll tax rates at Ban Toll Plaza.
Mr Mankotia said that gradually increasing of the rates every year was pinching the pocket of common man, which has now increased to Rs 200 (both sides) and Rs 135 (single side), at Ban Toll Plaza. Rates at Ban Toll Plaza are highest in the entire country as per length in kilometers with the result that commuters from Udhampur, Reasi and Katra are made to suffer even as they don’t use the full stretch of the Highway, he explained.
Mankotia also drew attention towards the lack of toilet facility on National Highway where thousands of trucks remain stranded at Udhampur and the drivers & helpers go to open responding to the nature’s call.
PD NHAI assured Mankotia to take up the matter with higher authorities for early redressal of these issues.
