SAMBA, Sept 24: Apni Party provincial president Jammu Manjit Singh today demanded compensation for the farmers whose fields are located ahead of zero line and under the fence on International Border in Samba district.
Addressing a meeting of party workers at Rajpura, the former Minister Manjit Singh said that the people are concerned about their financial condition due to their inability to cultivate their land ahead of fence and zero-line. “The poor farmers are in extreme financial constraints as they are not being provided compensation by the concerned department even as they have agricultural land,” he said.
Manjit Singh said that these people are dependent upon the land for their survival which is not in their possession. Hence, the concerned department and Government of India should look into this humanitarian crisis so that the poor should not suffer. He demanded adequate compensation for the farmers who have land ahead of the fence, zero-line and on which the fence has been laid on the International Border.
He said that the people in Chak Pakta have private land on the extreme border belt and they should be given a chance to cultivate the agriculture-able land. He also demanded a special recruitment drive for the unemployed youth in the border belt. The youth of border areas of Jammu, Kathua and Samba should be given an opportunity to serve the nation by recruiting them in the defence forces, paramilitary and police department, he added.
The meeting was also attended by district president Samba Raman Thappa and other leaders.
