SAMBA, Aug 29: Former Minister and senior Congress leader Manjit Singh today appealed Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Planning and Labour Employment Minister, Ajay Sadhotra, to personally intervene into the demands of the labourers of the factories, which have now been closed by their owners.
Manjit Singh went to the protest dharna site of the factory labourers at district headquarter in Samba district and listened to the demands of the labourers who have been demanding action against the owners of industrial houses.
Singh, quoting the allegations of the protesters, said Bharat Box factory has been closed and now they have opened their two different units, leaving their labourers jobless.
Former Minister assured all possible help to the protesters. He said the Government has given many tax rebates, and other facilities so that employment can be generated for the unemployed youth. However, efforts of the Government have been hampered due to the shutting down of the factories after several years, he added.
“Before allowing opening of any industrial unit, the Government should take in writing from the industrialists that they would not close their units before 50 years or so,” he appealed, while saying that some industrialists take benefits from the Government and then exploit their labourers, which needs to be checked.
He further said that the labourers are not given employment as per the labour laws and it should be taken into account by the concerned Minister.
