Manjit for probe into diversion of funds

SAMBA, Oct 15: Former Minister and senior Congress leader Manjit Singh today appealed Chief Secretary Iqbal Khandey to order a probe into the alleged misappropriation of money meant for flood affected people and its use in “Unapproved” works of Rural Development and R&B Departments in Samba.
Mr Singh visited villages in Vijaypur constituency where he interacted with the people who appraised him about the problems they were facing.
He alleged that the Rural Development and R&B Departments have started works in Vijaypur and other areas which were “unapproved”.
These officials are hand in glove with the contractors and were working on the behest of a local MLA, he added.
“The officials have allegedly misappropriated money meant for flood affected people of the Vijaypur,” he said, adding that instead of using money for the victims, a political leader of the area has been using these departments for political mileage.
He said that the Chief Secretary should order a probe into the matter and hand over its investigation to the State Vigilance Organisation to ascertain as to why the public money was diverted and used for “unapproved” works.
He further said that the affected people should be given benefits and the erring officials as well as the contractors should be punished for the wrongs.
