SAMBA, Dec 26: The people of Ramgarh and adjoining areas held a demonstration at Ramgarh demanding compensation for the damaged crops and land which was eroded due to this year’s flood.
The demonstration was led by former Minister and senior Congress leader, Manjit Singh and another Congress leader Paramjit Singh alias Pamma.
Addressing the demonstrators Manjit Singh expressed surprise over the delay in release of compensation to farmers whose crops were damaged in the floods and whose land was also washed away at various places.
He said that it is not known why the authorities are delaying the release of compensation when they have received funds for the same.
He warned that in case the compensation was not paid within fortnight the farmers of the area will intensify agitation.
Extending full support to agitating farmers, he said they were already facing many hardships due to power cuts and costly fertilizers and pesticides. He urged the Government to look into their problems and mitigate the same.
