Manipal Hospitals to organize Cardiac e-OPD in Jammu

JAMMU, Aug 13: New Delhi based HCMCT Manipal Hospitals in association with Medicare Nursing Home, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, will be organizing Specialty (Cardiac) e-OPD/Tele Consultation on Friday (August 14) from 11 am – 2 pm.
During the e-OPD/Tele Consultation, Dr Sanjay Kumar, Consultant, Department of Cardio, HCMCT Manipal Hospitals, New Delhi would provide consultations through a widescreen (video) placed at Medicare Nursing Home to patients and recommend local doctors to carry out their recommendations for those patients who need specialized treatment and care there.
As the UT is facing the higher burden of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) such as cardiovascular diseases due to consumption of tobacco, smoking, obesity, diabetes and hypertension, Manipal Hospitals has taken an initiative to make people of the region aware of the Cardiovascular diseases and availability of advanced treatment and care.
Announcing the OPD for the region, Dr Sanjay Kumar, Consultant, Cardiology, HCMCT Manipal Hospitals, New Delhi said, “Heart disease including heart failure is the leading individual cause of disease burden in India and it contributes significantly in total deaths. A worrying trend is being witnessed by cardiologists as changing lifestyle, food habits, high stress in urban areas, binge drinking and use of narcotics have increased the risk factor of heart failure among youth as well. The rising incidence of heart failure is a big concern.”
According to the expert, the most important causes of Heart Failure are a long-standing Ischemic Heart Disease, valvular heart disease, Diabetes mellitus and Hypertension. Besides, disease of Heart muscles i.e. Dilated Cardiomyopathy of another very important cause of Heart Failure.
“As the Heart Failure Progresses medicinal treatments may no longer work and ultimately patient may require surgical procedures such as Heart Transplant or Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) and Total Artificial Heart (TAH) are now available to treat Heart Failure,” Dr Kumar added.
