JAMMU, Apr 1: Former Member-Parliament ( Rajya Sabha ) and ex State president, Bharatiya Janata Party, (BJP), Shamsher Singh Manhas today met Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh at New Delhi and discussed the current situation of Jammu & Kashmir with him.
During half an hour meeting, Manhas urged Union Defence Minister to start Army recruitment rally for the border areas of Jammu & Kashmir. He said that the youth of Jammu & Kashmir are desperate to join the Indian Army and wanted to serve the country with zeal & passion.
Manhas also urged Union Defence Minister to sanction a dozen more Army schools for Jammu & Kashmir and also said to slash the fee structure as it is very high as compared to Kendariya Vidalayas. The children of the security personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF), Centre Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Jammu Kashmir Police should be given admission on priority and if possible there should be a quota for them, he added.
Manhas highlighted the problems of the border farmers and people faced by them after the cordoning of the border area due to fencing.
Manhas also said that the Union Government should provide employment or compensation to the families whose land has been taken by the Army and BSF so that they can earn a living and the issue should be sorted out so that these hapless farmers can also cultivate their land and make their both ends meet.
