Man shot dead, troops fired upon

SRINAGAR, May 16: Militants today shot dead a man in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district for his alleged links with security forces while an Army party was fired at by militants in Shopian.
Police said that militants shot dead a civilian Manzoor Ahmad Palla son of Abdul Gani Palla, resident of Nawbal Batapora village of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district in his native village.
Manzoor, 38, professionally a carpenter was outside in the fields, located nearer to his residential place when unidentified gunmen wearing masks shot him dead. He was shifted to Yaripora hospital where from he was shifted to district hospital Kulgam where doctors declared him as brought dead.
Reports said that he was working in fields, when militants started speaking to him and took him along and brought him towards brick klin. He was later shot dead there and body found lying there at around 6:15 pm.
Manzoor’s cousin Shahid of Wampura was recently inducted in Army through recruitment rally held in Anantnag High Ground and is posted in West Bengal now. His sister is a ruling PDP Panch in Wampura.
Police and Army have launched massive searches to trace the assailants.
Militants tonight fired at an Army party in Pahlipora in Shopian district of South Kashmir in the orchards. Police and Army have now cordoned off the area and massive searches are on.
