Man shot dead by PSO of VC SC/ST Board; people protest, block road

JAMMU, May 13: An ASI of J&K Armed police, posted as PSO of Vice Chairman, SC/ST Board and a prominent PDP leader, who had contested last Assembly elections from RS Pura reserved seat, today shot dead a man over some issue, following which his relatives and neighbours staged protest and blocked road near police station Miran Sahib.
According to reliable sources, the PSO of Bhushan Dogra, who was identified as ASI Ram Lal, this afternoon barged into the house of a man identified as Ravinder Kumar (45) son of Madan Lal, resident of village Ban Sultan (Mira Sahib) and fired four rounds on Ravinder from his pistol and left him seriously injured.
Sources said, the accused cop also fired a round on Ravinder’s wife namely Soma Devi (40), who was on the roof of the house. Though the bullet did not hit the woman, she fell down from the roof and sustained back injuries. They said that both husband and wife were immediately rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu, where Ravinder was declared as brought dead by the doctors.
After completing all medico-legal formalities, the body of the deceased was handed over to his legal heirs for last rites while the injured woman was undergoing treatment. After registering a case in this connection, the Mira Sahib police acted swiftly and arrested the accused ASI with the weapon of crime.
Later the family members, relatives and neighbours of the deceased man staged a protest demanding immediate arrest of the accused cop. They also blocked main road near police station RS Pura. The protest continued for about 2-3 hours. The protestors dispersed and lifted the blockade only after seniors officers of police and civil administration including SDM Susheel Sharma and SP Headquarter, Ramesh Kotwal, reached the spot and pacified the agitated people by assuring justice.
According to the sources, the accused cop committed the crime in a fit of rage when he came to know about the secret marriage of his daughter with Raman, the nephew of Ravinder. As Raman was not at home, he shot dead his uncle, Ravinder Kumar.
