SRINAGAR, Jan 30: Authorities in Anantnag today arrested a man for possessing several illegal wildlife items which were seized immediately upon recovery.
The action was taken by the officials of the Wildlife Department and the local police after receiving specific information provided by Wild Life Crime Control Bureau, New Delhi (WLCCB) regarding a man in possession of contraband wildlife items.
A team of wild officials along with a police party and CRPF 40 Bn raided a residential house in Shirpora Anantnag and made huge recoveries.
“Body parts of wild animal animals including eight leopard hides, four musk deer pods and 38 bear gall bladders were recovered from his possession,” officials of the Wildlife department said.
The person who has been arrested has been identified as Gul Mohammad Ganai, son of Abdul Rehman Ganai of Shirpora in district Anantnag.
The gall blabbers that have been recovered, the official said are at least 8 years old.
A case vide FIR No. 16/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Anantnag and all the banned items so recovered stands seized. Further, investigations in the matter, officials said, are going on.
Notably, as per officials, as a part of the same operation, a large number of contraband wildlife items have also been recovered in Jammu as well.
