4 including doc skip quarantine at TRC

Srinagar, May 11: A man in late 50s from Srinagar whose 32-year old son died last week due to COVID-19 passed away today taking the number of COVID-19 deaths in Jammu and Kashmir to 10 while 12 people tested positive for Coronavirus today in the Valley taking the J&K tally to 879.
Four days after his 32-year old son died of COVID-19, a cancer patient from Srinagar who was admitted to Super Specialty Hospital at Shireen Bagh in Srinagar died today becoming the fresh victim of the deadly virus in the Valley, taking the toll in Jammu and Kashmir to 10.
The man belonging to Alamgari Bazar of Srinagar had already tested positive for Coronavirus last week had underlying serious comorbidities as well. He was suffering from pancreatic cancer and had other comorbidities. He died at the hospital this afternoon.
The 32- year-old son of the deceased had died on May 7 after he had contracted the virus while attending to his father, now dead, admitted in the Oncology department at Super Specialty Hospital in Srinagar.
With this fatality, 10 persons have died due to the deadly disease so far in Jammu and Kashmir, 9 of them in the Valley and one in Jammu division.
Nodal Officer Government Medical College Srinagar, Dr Salim Khan told Excelsior that 480 samples were processed at the CD Virology laboratory and two tested positive.
One of them is 38-year old lab technician from Kulgam and another is 65-year old man who is from Tangmarg and is admitted in Isolation Ward of SMHS hospital.
In SKIMS Virology lab, 1247 samples were processed and 9 tested positive, all from Kulgam district of South Kashmir.
They include seven people from Nursing Pora village of Kulgam. They are four men aged 60, 45, 21, 33 and 2 women aged 22, 45 years of age. An 11 year old girl and 23 woman from Panipora also tested positive and another woman from Kutabal Panipora also tested positive. A 30-year old woman of Kulgam tested positive in Jammu.
With today’s positive cases, Jammu and Kashmir tally is now at 879 with 442 are active and 427 have recovered and 10 have died.
And today, 44 more COVID-19 patients recovered and were discharged from various hospitals of Kashmir.
So far 51334 tests were conducted in J&K, 50455 tested negative and 879 as positive. Bandipora topped the list of positive cases with 134 cases including 26 active and 107 recovered; Srinagar has 136 positive cases with 56 active and 76 recovered; Anantnag district has 123 positive cases with 110 active, 12 recovered; Baramulla has 109 positive cases with 61 active and 45 recovered; Shopian has 103 positive cases with 52 active Positive and 51 recovered; Kupwara has 73 positive cases with 30 active and 43 recovered; Budgam has 46 positive cases with 32 active and 14 recovered; Ganderbal has 23 positive cases with 9 active and 14 recovered; Kulgam has 42 positive cases with 36 active and six recovered while Pulwama has 13 positive cases with 9 active and four recovered.
So far 95419 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 22708 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 190 in Hospital Quarantine, 442 in hospital isolation and 10188 under home surveillance. Besides, 61881 persons have completed their surveillance period.
And people including a doctor today skipped quarantine giving slip to screening staff at TRC Srinagar on arrival from Delhi. One among them tested positive and FIR was registered against them and authorities sealed the TRC.
Addl Secy LA arrested
Police have arrested an Additional Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly for killing a boy and injuring his father in a road mishap in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Additional Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Manzoor Ahmad Baba from Noorpora Tral was driving his vehicle on the National Highway yesterday morning. He hit a child and his father at Chursoo in Awantipora area of Pulwama. The boy died on the spot and his father is critical.
Baba was taken into custody by the Police and a case has been registered.
