Man, daughter killed; 8 injured as truck rams into several vehicles on NH

RAMBAN, Nov 14: A man and his four-year-old daughter were killed while eight others sustained injuries after a rashly driven truck rammed into several vehicles on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, here.

As per police sources, a Kashmir-bound truck bearing registration number HP38F-6278 hit a tempo, Alto car, Qualis and a Tata Sumo coming from opposite side at Makerkote on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, resulting into on the spot death of a man and his daughter vis injuries to 8 others.
After getting information, a team from Police Station Ramsoo rushed to the spot and started rescue operation with the help of locals and QRT volunteers.
All the injured persons were rushed to Primary Health Centre (PHC) Ramsoo, from where two were later referred to Sub District Hospital (SDH) Banihal for specialised treatment.
The deceased were identified as Jatinder Singh (35), son of Arjeet Singh of Tral District Pulwama and his four-year-old daughter Nardeep Kour.
The injured were identified as Ranveer Kour, wife of Jatinder Singh of Tral District Pulwama, Jaswinder Singh, son of Shami Singh of Una Himachal Pradesh, Bhagwan Dass, son of Ravela of Halwagan Tehsil Ramsoo District Ramban, Waseem Ahmad, son of Samiulla of Pattan District Baramulla, Taj Din, son of Noor Din of Ameer Nagar District Doda, Rafiya Bano, daughter of Noor Din of Ameer Nagar District Doda, Mohammad Ashraf, son of Mohammad Latief of Noorabad District Doda and Shamima Bano, wife of Mohammad Ashraf of Noorabad District Doda.
“Preliminary investigations suggested break failure caused the truck driver to lose control over the vehicle”, police sources said, adding that a case under relevant Sections has been registered at Police Station Ramsoo and investigation started.
Meanwhile, Additional District Magistrate (ADM), Ramban, Harbans Sharma has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the circumstances leading to the accident.
In an order, Sharma appointed Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Ramsoo Dil Mir as inquiry officer and asked him to submit his report by November 21.
