Man beaten to death on suspicion of witchcraft

UDHAMPUR, Sept 17: In a shocking incident, a middle aged man was beaten to death by his relatives who suspected him of practicing black magic at a village under the jurisdiction of Chenani Police Station.
Reports said that Him Raj (55), son of Suram Chand, resident of Ward Number 3, village Nuglta in Tehsil Chenani, was beaten to death by his cousin Ishwar Dass, son of Anant Ram and other family members.
The incident took place late last night when Him Raj was sitting near a Bowli (natural spring well) and the accused Ishwar Dass dragged him to his house where he along with his family members severely assaulted the victim with rods resulting his death on the spot.
Police has arrested Ishwar Dass and his family members for questioning and registered a murder case in this connection for further investigations.
According to the reports, Ishwar Dass had an impression that deceased Him Raj was practising black magic on his family members that allegedly led to death of a child in his family. He dragged the victim when the latter was sitting alone near a bowli late last night.
Ishwar Dass along with his family members severely thrashed Him Raj, who reportedly died on the spot because of fatal injuries.
On being informed by family members of the deceased, a Police party reached the village early this morning and recovered dead body of Him Raj near the house of Ishwar Dass.
Later, the dead body was shifted to CHC Chenani for postmortem. After completion of all the legal formalities and postmortem, Police handed over the dead body to family members of the deceased.
According to SDPO Chenani, Ahmad Shaafi, Ishwar Das and his five family members have been arrested for questioning and a case FIR number 123/2021 under section 364/342/302/147/148/ IPC has been registered at Police Station Chenani for further investigation.
