JAMMU, Nov 27: Chairman, Legislative Council, Amrit Malhotra today asked officers of Horticulture Produce and Marketing Department (HP&M) to speed up acquisition of land required for expansion of Fruit Mandi Narwal for creation of additional facilities in the Mandi, besides ensuring allotment of space to those traders who have deposited the money with the department.
The Chairman was reviewing the proposed expansion plan for the Narwal Fruit Mandi at an officers meeting held here today.
The Director Horticulture Produce and Marketing, A R Nanto, Deputy Director, HP&M, Jammu A.S. Sambyal, were among others present at the meeting.
The Director, while giving details of the project, said that the existing fruit Mandi was spread over an area of 326 kanals of land and annexing of further 276 kanals would create additional facilities for the sellers and buyers, besides helping the department in accommodating the people who have deposited money with the department for setting of new business units. He said 26 persons have already deposited money with the department for allotment of space in the Mandi, adding “the allotment is only possible after the land is transferred to the department by Jammu Development Authority (JDA)”.
Mr Nanto said that the land belongs to Forest Department and it was earlier decided that JDA would allot alternate land, identified at Nagrota, to the Forest Department, for reforestation, in exchange of this chunk of land. He said JDA has to take concrete measures in this regard.
Calling for inter departmental coordination, the Chairman asked for convening joint meeting of Housing and Urban Development, Forest and Horticulture Ministries so that the bottlenecks impeding the land transfer are removed to ensure early implementation of the project.
