It is a sorry state of affairs that the turn out of voters in elections is decreasing. Maximum of voters avoided participation in previous elections as was reported by the media. 50 percent voters in the urban areas allowed their right of franchise go waste.
For National and State level elections, voting should be made mandatory or people will lose interest. Any person abstaining from voting should lose all concessions given as democratic right for atleast five years. This could mean surrendering the ration card, passport, no free medical aid, no reservation, may be no pension even.
