Major tragedy averted, powerful IED defused under bridge in Kashmir

SRINAGAR : Security forces today averted a major tragedy when they detected and defused a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted under a railway bridge in north Kashmir district of Baramulla, official sources said  here.
Sources told UNI that  a Road Opening Party (ROP) of security forces noticed a powerful IED planted under a railway bridge at Mazhama on Srinagar-Baramulla track.    The area was immediately sealed and all those present in the area were shifted to safer places.    Later, the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) defused the IED in a pressure cooker without causing any damage.    Had it not been detected and defused, it would have caused major damage to life and property, they said.
