Major spike in Corona cases: Jammu breaches 600-mark; 4 more die

74 in Bahu Plaza, 57 in Courts, 31 in BSF Camp Paloura test +ve

JAMMU, Sept 3: Jammu region today recorded major spike in Coronavirus cases breaching 600-mark for the first time reporting highest-ever 622 cases in a single-day with Jammu district alone accounting for 484, which were more than the tally of entire Kashmir division which stood at 457 while four more COVID casualties were reported from the region and 104 patients were treated and discharged from various hospitals.
An Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD), who is a KAS officer, five doctors, 31 persons from BSF Camp Paloura, seven CRPF jawans from Preet Nagar Digiana, five members of a family from Paloura, three couples from Shahidhi Chowk, Sainik Colony and Talab Tillo, three PWD officials from Kathua and Rajouri, two employees in Administrative section of the Principal GMC Jammu office and several Health workers were among today’s positives in Jammu region.
A total of 4697 persons were tested in various offices, markets, shopping complexes and other areas in Jammu district for COVID-19 through Rapid Antigen Testing (RAT) today in which 301 persons reported positive for the virus (240 in urban and 61 in rural areas) including 56 in Court complex Janipura—31 in High Court and 25 in district courts. Seventy four persons tested positive in Bahu Plaza.
Other positives in RAT include Tawi Mahal (3), Indira Chowk (7), Gujjar Nagar (1), Residency Road (8), Talab Khatikan (13), Shiva Ji Nagar in Nanak Nagar (16), Sanjay Nagar (9), Narwal Pain (4), Durga Mandir (2), Digiana (17), Pari Mahal (7), Fruit Mandi Narwal (4), Sarwal (15), Shemanpura in Gandhi Nagar (4), Akhnoor (10), Bishnah (3), Dansal (1), Kot Bhalwal (5), Marh (8), Pallanwala (24), RS Pura (5) and Sohanjana (5).
In view of positive cases in High Court and district courts, the High Court Jammu wing as well as district court complex will remain closed for two days on September 4 and 5. According to an order issued by Chief Justice Gita Mittal, no person except the sanitation workers will be permitted to enter the High Court on September 4 and 5 and urgent cases listed on September 4 will be taken up on September 7. As per another order of Principal District and Sessions Judge Sanjeev Gupta, the district court premises will also remain closed for two days for sanitation purposes and the Presiding Officers of all the courts will hear urgent cases through virtual mode from their respective residences.
A 50-year-old man from Afghan Mohalla in Jammu City who was suffering from hypertension and Community Acquire Pneumonia died in the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu this evening within hours of hospitalization. He was positive for COVID-19, GMC Medical Superintendent Dr Dara Singh said.
A 73-year-old man from Paloura in Jammu district who was admitted to Cardiac Unit in Super Specialty Hospital (SSH) on September 2 with co-morbidities was shifted to the GMC Jammu late last night after testing positive for COVID-19. He died few hours later.
An 82-year-old man from Patoli Mangotrian in Jammu district died at his residence last night. His family shifted body to the GMC Jammu where he tested positive for the virus posthumously early today.
A 59-year-old man from Basohli tehsil in Kathua district was admitted to the GMC Jammu since August 25 with co-morbidities. He tested positive for Coronavirus and died early this morning.
Today’s deaths have taken Corona toll in Jammu region to 79 and Jammu district to 52. Corona casualties in other districts include five each in Rajouri and Kathua, four each Doda and Poonch, three each Udhampur and Samba and one each in Ramban and Kishtwar districts.
Twenty two persons today reported COVID positive in Kishtwar district including 16 contacts of a pre-wedding party members who had tested positive in Bhandari Mohalla of the town, Deputy Commissioner Rajinder Singh Tara said. Nearly one and a half dozen persons who had attended the pre-wedding party of a retired Nurse in Bhandari Mohalla have already reported positive.
Fourteen persons today tested positive in Doda district. They include Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD) Doda, who is a KAS officer hailing from Kishtwar and was symptomatic.
Two staffer of GMC Doda, four drivers and one pregnant woman also tested positive in Doda district.
Twenty five new Corona cases were today reported from Samba district including a Civil Engineer, one Jammu and Kashmir Bank official posted in Kathua, three Army officials, a Pharmacist from Parmandal, three Army personnel, one SSB jawan, a businessman and a pregnant woman.
Five CRPF personnel of 137 battalion, a female official from BDO office and a woman doctor from Sudh Mahadev were among 16 persons who have reported positive for Coronavirus in Udhampur district, Deputy Commissioner Dr Piyush Singla said.
Other positives of the district include hailed from Hansa Ramnagar, Ward No. 12 Sailan Talab, Jib, Pakhlal, Satrari Majalata, Bashat Chenani, Supply Morh and Sarar Chenani.
Kathua district reported 21 new COVID cases, two of them PWD officials posted at Basohli.
Other positives of Kathua hailed from Hatli Morh, Ward No. 1 Hiranagar, Dukhat Hatli, Shiva Nagar Kathua, Khilo Chak Hiranagar, Ward No. 19 Kathua, Satura Hiranagar, Sanji Morh and Ward 7 Kathua, District Magistrate OP Bhagat said.
Seventeen persons reported positive for COVID-19 in Rajouri district. They include five CRPF personnel, one each jawan from BSF and police, one staffer from GMC Rajouri, a PWD official, an employee from Treasury and three shopkeepers from Nowshera.
Two Health Department officials—one each posted in District Hospital Reasi and Community Health Centre Katra, a contact of the positive person and a traveler tested positive for the virus in Reasi district.
Of eight positives of Poonch district, four hailed from Surankote and one each from Gholad Mendhar, Gursai Mendhar and Poonch.
Six locals tested positive for COVID-19 in Ramban district.
As per the official figures, Jammu region now has 9918 cases. Of them, 3010 are active positive while 6830 have been treated for the virus. There have been 79 corona casualties.
A total of 104 Corona patients were today discharged from various COVID hospitals in the region after testing negative, the highest being 49 in Jammu district, 17 Poonch, 13 Samba, 10 Kathua, nine Udhampur, five Ramban and one in Doda district.
Meanwhile, the Union Territory of Ladakh today reported 55 Corona cases—44 in Leh and 11 in Kargil district taking Corona tally to 2840 and active cases to 766, As many as 2039 Corona patients have recovered while there have been 35 casualties.

ACB DySP tests -ve in RAT, +ve in RTPCR

In a major question mark on Rapid Antigen Testing (RAT), a DySP of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Jammu, who was tested negative for COVID-19 in RAT three days back today reported positive in the RTPCR test.
The DySP was symptomatic.
The RAT tested him negative. However, since he had all symptoms of the virus, the doctors advised him RTPCR. The RTPCR report came today and the DySP tested positive for COVID-19.
He has been admitted in the GMC Jammu.
Health experts said reporting a positive patient as negative could lead to spread of the virus as the person presuming that he is free of virus will mix up with his family, relatives and other persons.
