NEW DELHI : Senior IAS officer Aruna Sharma has been appointed as Steel Secretary as part of a major top-level bureaucratic reshuffle effected today by the government.
A total of 15 new Secretaries have been appointed in various central government ministries.
The portfolios of Sharma and Aruna Sundararajan, who is Steel Secretary, have been swapped. Aruna Sharma will now be Steel Secretary and Sundarajan will be Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, an order issued by Department of Personnel and Training said.
Both are 1982 batch IAS officers.
B K Prasad, who conducted an inquiry into the missing files relating to alleged fake encounter of Ishrat Jahan, has been appointed as Secretary, National Commission for Denotified, Nomadic and Semi-nomadic Tribes for two years.
Prasad was given two-month extension, till this month-end, beyond his superannuation. He was due to retire on May 31.
Gujarat-cadre IAS officer Amarjit Singh has been named as new Secretary Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation. He will take over as Officer on Special Duty in the same ministry with immediate effect, it said.
Singh, who is presently Special Secretary in the Ministry, would take over as Secretary on superannuation of the present incumbent Shashi Shekhar, the order said.
M, Sathiavathy, Director General Civil Aviation (DGCA), has been named as Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment. She has been appointed as Officer on Special Duty in the Labour Ministry with immediate effect.
Sathiavathy will take over as Secretary in the Labour Ministry on superannuation of the present incumbent Shankar Agarwal, the order said, without mentioning the name of new DGCA. (AGENCIES)
