Srinagar, Oct 22: In a major success for the security forces in North Kashmir, two militants of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) module, responsible for carrying out two attacks in Baramulla town, were arrested.
Police said that in a joint operation conducted by police, Army including 52-Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), two militants, who were part of Jaish-e-Mohammad module in Baramulla, were arrested.
The arrested militants have been identified as Safeer Ahmad Bhat resident of Janbazpora, Baramulla and Farhaan Fayaz Liloo son of Fayaz Ahmad Liloo, resident of Jamia Mohalla, Baramulla.
Police said that these militants were part of JeM module operating in Baramulla town and adjacent areas for last few months and had established base in the town taking advantage of unrest. They said that the module is headed by one Pakistani militant by code name Khalid.
Police said that the module along with the arrested duo were involved in an attack on Army convoy on August 16 this year in Khwajabagh area of Baramulla in which two Army personnel and one police man were killed.
Sources said that the module was also involved in an attack on an Army camp in Baramulla town early this month in which one BSF man was killed and another was injured.
Police said that one AK rifle, one pistol and other arms and ammunition was recovered from their possession. Police said that they are conducting investigation into the matter.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) North Kashmir, Uttam Chand, told reporters that for last 24 hours they had launched operations in Baramulla. “We arrested two terrorists of Jaish-e-Mohammad during the operations. The group is headed by a Pakistani terrorist Khalid. The group is involved in an attack on Army convoy in Baramulla town in which two Army personnel and one police man were killed”, he said.
The DIG said that the arrest is a major success for security forces and by these arrests, the JeM has suffered a major blow in the area as they were trying to carry out strikes in the area. “We have inputs about presence of militants in the Baramulla and we are launching operations regularly against them”, he said.
After the two strikes in Baramulla town, security forces launched massive anti-militancy operation in Old town Baramulla in North Kashmir twice this week and arrested around 78 people including OGWs of militants. However, over a dozen of them were released while rest of them are being questioned for their involvement in militancy and unrest.
The operation was launched by the Police, Army, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Border Security Force (BSF) as a group of 3-4 Pakistani militants of JeM with the help of locals had established base in Old Town taking advantage of the unrest. However, the Pakistani militants fled from the area before the operation was launched.
