Poonch, May 30: A 40-year-old man was critically injured after being attacked by a wild bear in the Barari area of Sawjian Gagrian, a border region in Poonch district, on Saturday.
The victim, identified as Mehmood Ahmed, was reportedly carrying out routine work in the area when a wild bear suddenly emerged and attacked him. The assault left him with multiple serious injuries on different parts of his body.
Hearing his cries for help, local residents rushed to the spot and managed to rescue him from the bear after considerable effort. He was immediately taken to a nearby health facility for first aid.
Considering the severity of his injuries, doctors referred him to Sub-District Hospital Mandi. However, as his condition remained critical, he was later shifted to Raja Sukhdev Singh District Hospital, Poonch, for advanced treatment.
The incident has created fear among residents of the area, who have expressed concern over the increasing movement of wild animals near human settlements. Locals have urged the Forest Department to take necessary measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
