JAMMU, Mar 29: Mahavir Jayanti was celebrated with full religious fervor and gaiety across Jammu today.
In this connection an impressive function was held at Zorawar Singh Auditorium, Jammu University. The function was organized by S S Jain Sabha.
The programme started with recitation of Mahamantra Navkaar followed by flag hoisting ceremony. Flag was hoisted by Anand Jain, I GP HQ.
This was followed by cultural programme which was presented by students of Shri Mahaveer Jain, Higher Secondary School, Vardhman Bal Vatican and various organizations affiliated to S.S. Jain Sabha.
On the occasion, prizes distribution ceremony was also organized by Jain Yuvak Sangh, Jammu to honour the people of Jain Samaaj who excelled in various fields including education, cultural, sports etc during the year. Proceedings for prize distribution were conducted by Neerav Jain, general secretary, Jain Yuvak Sangh.

BJP State president and MLA Jammu West, Sat Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion. In his address he stressed on the need to follow the preachings and teachings of Lord Mahaveera. He said the teachings of Lord Mahavir are as relevant in today’s world which is facing chaos and confusion all across as they were relevant 2600 years ago.
He said Lord Mahavir gave the message of peace and non violence (Ahimsa) to entire Universe.
Rajesh Gupta, MLA Jammu East who was the guest of honour said that “ Jiyo aur Jeene do is the need of hour” which was preached by Lord Mahavir.
Vikram Randhawa, MLC who was also the guest of honour said that principle of “non violence” which was taught by Lord Mahaveer should be taught to younger generations so that they can follow right path in life.
Proceedings of the programme were conducted by Raman Jain, general secretary, S.S. Jain Sabha.
Raj Kumar Jain president Jain Sabha also spoke on the occasion and threw light on various activities undertaken by S S Jain Sabha.
Another function was held in Gandhi Nagar Jain Sabha Sat Sangh Ghar in which a large number of members of the Jain community participated in religious discourses. The speakers on the occasion highlighted the teachings of Lord Mahavir and said that his teachings only lead to renunciation from worldly bondages and attainment of Mukhti (Salvation).
