Maha Shivratri celebrated with religious fervor, gaiety across J&K

Thousands of devotees throng Aap Shamboo Mandir, other temples

JAMMU, Mar 4: Maha Shivratri was celebrated with religious fervor and gaiety across J&K State today. All the Shiv temples across the State were fully decorated by the devotees.
There was a heavy rush of devotees in the Shiv temples from early in the morning and thousands of people visited these temples to pay obeisance to Lord Shiva and his consort Parvati on the occasion.
The highest rush of the devotees was seen at Aap Shamboo temple, Roop Nagar where thousands of devotees thronged from early in the morning to pay their obeisance to Lord. There were huge queues of devotees from Bantalab -Roop Nagar road up to the holy temple waiting for their turn to perform darshan. The devotees including men, women and children were seen in long queues waiting for their turn to perform darshan from early in the morning.
The devotees offered Jal, (water) flowers, Bel and milk to Shivlingam and participated in prayers.

A Shivratri mela was also held there and people have installed stalls right from Roop Nagar- Bantalab road to entrance of the temple. Some religious and social organizations have also installed langers distributing Prashad to devotees.
Due to heavy rush of devotees in the temple, there was also a huge jam of traffic on the Bantalab road. The rush of devotees was also seen in other Shiv Temples of Jammu city and people had also installed stalls at different locations to distribute Prashad among devotees.
While holding special prayers in the temples the devotees said that they prayed for peace and brotherhood to prevail in the country and eternal peace for the martyrs’ soul who laid down their lives in recent terrorist attacks in the State for the national cause.
Heavy rush of devotees was also witnessed at Ranbireshwar temple, Shalamar road here where also large number of devotees drawn from different parts of city and outskirts thronged from early in the morning to offer their obeisance to Lord. There was also a beeline of devotees in the temple for darshan. Elaborate arrangements were made for the devotees on the occasion.
The rush of devotees was also witnessed at Shiv Temple at Fly Over Jammu, near Dogra Chowk. A large number of devotees visited the temple to pay their obeisance. Large number of devotees also visited Shiv temple Canal road on the occasion of Maha Shivratri today to pay their obeisance to Lord from early morning.
The rush of devotees was also witnessed at Peer Kho temple in the City where the four day long Shivratri mela is also underway.
The devotees also visited various Shiv temples in Gandhi Nagar, Shastri Nagar, Trikuta Nagar, Talab Tillo, Bohri and other places in the outskirts of the city to participate in the Maha Shivratri celebrations.
The reports coming from Kathua said that though the rush of devotees was witnessed in all Shiv temples of the district, the main function was held in Billawar Shiv Temple where a huge number of devotees from different parts of Billawar, Basohli and Kathua participated. Devotees also visited Jasrota Fort near Raj Bagh, Aap Shambo temple Kathua, Dholoti Dogra temple in village Jandi in Hiranagar tehsil and other temples of the district to pay their obeisance and participate in special prayers on the occasion.
A large number of devotees thronged the Maheshwar mandir, Samba to participate in the Maha Shivratri celebrations. The temple was fully decorated by the devotees and Management Committee of the temple where people started thronging from wee hours to pay their obeisance to Lord.
In Reasi hundreds of devotees visited Aap Shambo Mahadev Mandir to perform darshan. Thousands of devotees also visited the holy Shrine of Shiv Khori where 20 day-long Mela in connection with Maha Shivratri concluded today.
In Udhampur the devotees thronged the Devika Shiv temple from early morning to perform darshan and offer special pooja to Lord. Some of the devotees while talking to Excelsior said that best obeisance to Lord will be that we should make solemn resolve and take pledge to maintain sanctity of holy Devika by keeping it clean.
The devotees also thronged the Shiv temple in Jib Udhampur and paid their obeisance on the occasion of Maha Shivratri there. In addition to it the devotees also thronged the Shiv Mandir Chenani, Ram Nagar and holy shrine of Sudh Mahadev and performed special pooja on the occasion of Maha Shivratri.
The heavy rush of devotees was also seen in Shiv temples of Kishtwar and Bhaderwah on the occasion of Maha Shivratri.
Reports coming from Poonch said that devotees also thronged the ancient shrine of Buda Amarnath in Mandi from early in the morning on the occasion of Maha Shivratri to perform darshan and offer pooja to Lord. A large number of devotees also thronged in Akhara Mandir, Poonch and performed special pooja on Maha Shivratri today. In Mendhar the Maha Shivratri was also celebrated in Shiv Mandirs of Darana Chowk and Shiv Temple of Ari where a large number of devotees drawn form different areas of Mendhar thronged.
On the occasion of Maha Shivratri devotees also offered special prayers in Shiv Temples of Rajouri and adjoin tehsils of the district.
In Kashmir Valley a large number of devotees visited the Shankracharya temple situated on top of Shankaracharya hill lock in Srinagar city and performed pooja -archana in a traditional manner. The devotees were served with the prashad at the temple.
In addition to Shankracharya, the devotees thronged the Shiv temple in Hanuman Mandir Complex at Badshah bridge Srinagar, Zeethyar and Barbarshah temples on the occasion of Maha Shivratri today and paid their obeisance and offered milk, flowers and Jal on Shivlingam.
