Dogri language is a sweet language. The famous line ‘ MITHDI AE DOGREN DI BOLI, TE KHAND MITHE LOK DOGRE’ from Padma Sachdev’s lyric has become a milestone thus advocating the sweetness of the language. This sweetness is observed in the poetry especially. Every year, so many poets get their literary works published and this way they contribute in rich Dog riliterature. It will be fair to add here that Lyrics have an amazing connection with the heart.While going through ‘KOUD TERI MERE TAAIEN CHAAS’, once again I experienced the same feel.
About Author:
Kuldeep Kipppi is a well-known dogri poet. He hails from village Hodh Camp, Tehsil Hiranagar, District Kathua. Many of his lyrics have been composed and broadcast from Aakashwani Jammu. He is himself a good singer and captivates the audience wherever he attends Mushiaras. His first collection of Ghazals entitled ‘KOSA PAANI’ was published in 2009 and after a gap of 15 years he has come up with a collection of lyrics now.

‘KOUD TERI MERE TAAIEN CHAAS ‘is a collection of 90 lyrics written in Dogri language. The collection comprises of different colours that decorate the book with all creative writing and contents therein. Some of lyrics advocate his passion for mother tongue Dogri like,
“MISHRI MITHI SUND PANJEERI
BHASHA EH ANMULLI AE
DUNIYA KHABRE ISGI ‘KIPPI’
KI PHIRDI AE BHULIYE.
BHAME BHULLE APNA AAPA
ISGI NEI BHULAEO”
Kippi is quite rich as far as vocabulary is concerned. He maintains the purity of the language which touches the innermost of the reader. He loves nature and his passion for ‘Neem’ tree , also known as Indian Lilac or Margosa, is well known in literary arena and his surroundings because on one hand if he ensures plantation of hundreds of tress in his vicinity and far fling areas, he makes it a point to carry on the noble cause through literature also. One of his most popular lyric has the following lines that tell a lot about his association with this tree having significant role in traditional Indian medicines,
“NIMME DEA BOOTEYA
OH SURGE DE JHOOTEYA
KOUD TERI MERE TAAIEN CHAAS
BISS MERE ANDAR DI
SEEKI LE TU MEHRMA
TERE THAMA EYAE MIGI AAS.”
The poet knows it well that love is a vital part of his journey as a poet and he expresses his innermost through many of his lyrics having focal point of mother tongue, native land, mankind, nature and attraction for fair sex. He has explored as a romantic poet with many of his lyrics connecting with the strange feelings experienced in relationships that carry all the expressions. A few lines from one of his lyric conveys uch a connect,
“MEIN HIRAKHVAJOGE PAEI GAEI AAN
MAIN KALLAM -KALLAM REHI GAYEE AAN
TU AANI RAHOL KARA ADHEYA
KOI HIRKHI GALL GALA ADHEYA”
With this collection,Kippi has proved that he is one among those poets who have the words as well as the expressions. He, like a magician knows the feelings of others and writes such a poetry that connects with others. He is a devotee of mother tongue Dogri and wants to contribute with good poetry revolving around the local concerns. He wants to fly with imaginative wings but having fuel of grounded issues. He is of the opinion that literature is a potent medium to have an access to the innermost of human beings and lyrics play a significant part in it.
Now linguists divide lyrics into two categories i.e. literary songs and folk songs, but these days, social media has given birth to another kind of songs which may hit the popularity for some time thanks to scintillating compositions, glamorous performers and eye catching videos but majority of these songs lack the soul. It’s a fact that such initiatives get applause but don’t survive for long. Literature has its own importance and language should be presented in its original form. We have to realize that whenever we work in any form of art, we are bound to preserve and promote our language and cultural traditions with purity.
The poet has dedicated this book in the everlasting memory of his maternal grandfather Late HavaldarBanaram Chowdhary , a freedom fighter who had served in Indian National Army. The title page is quite attractive. Those who wish to read good poetry and have the flavor of pure Dogri words, enjoy the sweetness of the language, this collection of lyrics is strongly recommended.
