NEW DELHI, Feb 18: ‘Enchanting Ladakh’ – two-week long exhibition-cum-sale of handicraft and handloom of Ladakh began with great enthusiasm at Dilli Haat INA on Monday.
Lieutenant Governor Ladakh Radha Krishna Mathur inaugurated the maiden indigenous exhibition of Ladakh at Dilli Haat. The exhibition is being organised by the Department of Industries & Commerce, Union Territory of Ladakh.
Speaking on the occasion, Lieutenant Governor R K Mathur said that Ladakh is the crown of the country. “India drives its name from the Indus River that flows only through Ladakh in India. Following the composite culture of our country, Ladakh is moving on the path towards development in a unified manner,” he said adding that the platforms like ‘Enchanting Ladakh’ would garner acceptance and encourage Ladakh’s products, culture, and identity at par with other regions on national level.
Earlier, LT. Governor visited the stalls of Ladakh and interacted with the artisans.
Chairman/ Chief Executive Councillor LAHDC, Leh Gyal P Wangyal, Chairman/ Chief Executive Councillors LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmed Khan; Member Parliament Jamyang Tsering Namgyal also spoke on the occasion.
Dy Chief Executive Councillor LAHDC Leh Tsering Sandup, Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) Ministry of Textiles GoI, Shantmanu, Sr Director (Handicrafts) Ministry of Textiles GoI, S K Jha, Councillors LAHDC Leh, art experts, writers, and audience in large number were also present.
The tribal exhibition-cum-sale of art, craft, culture & cuisine is displaying thankas, masks, wood, clay & metal works, woollen dress & shoes, pashmina shawls and scarves, apricot and mustard oil, miniature snow-leopard and yak toys, and delicacies mostly by the villagers and local producers of Ladakh. Live cultural programme every evening will be yet another attraction at Dilli Haat till 29th of February, 2020.
