SRINAGAR, May 22: Northern Army Commander Lt Gen K T Parnaik today called on Governor, N N Vohra at Raj Bhavan, here this afternoon.
During their meeting, the Governor and the Northern Army Commander discussed issues on internal and external security situation. Gen Parnaik briefed the Governor about various aspects of the recent attempts of infiltration from across the LoC. He also updated the Governor about the recent developments in Eastern Ladakh along the LAC.
Lt. Gen. Om Prakash, Corps Commander, 15 Corps, was present during the meeting.
Ghulam Hassan Mir, Minister for Agriculture also met Mr Vohra, and felicitated him on his appointment for the second term.
During their meeting, the Governor and the Agriculture Minister discussed several important matters relating to the functioning of the two State Farm Universities and the need for effective coordination between the varsities and the State Government Extension agencies to ensure the rapid growth of the agriculture sector, particularly to secure diversification of agriculture to encourage cultivation of low volume-high value crops and the promotion of dairy and poultry farming and other allied sectors.
The Governor and Mr. Mir also discussed other important issues relating to the future of the State.
Hakeem Mohammad Yasin, Member of the State Legislative Assembly also called on Mr. Vohra.
During his meeting with the Governor, Mr. Yasin discussed various matters concerning the implementation of socio-economic development schemes and programmes and other issues relating to the interests of the State.
Meanwhile, Rafi Ahmad Mir, MLA, Pahalgam, called on Mr Vohra.
During their meeting, Mr. Mir discussed with the Governor, who is Chairman of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, various matters relating to the ensuing Shri Amarnathji Yatra and, besides, issues concerning several important development programmes being executed in district Anantnag.
Prof. Amitabh Mattoo, former Vice Chancellor of the University of Jammu also called on Mr. Vohra.
The Governor discussed with Prof. Mattoo, who is currently the Director of the Australia-India Institute and Professor of International Relations at the University of Melbourne, Australia, several matters relating to the advancement of higher education in J&K. Prof. Mattoo felicitated the Governor on his appointment for the second term.
