Srinagar, Aug 26: Chief of Northern Command of Army, Lt General Sanjiv Chachra today visited Line of Control (LoC) in Gurez sector of Kashmir valley and interacted with troops at a Rashtriya Rifles sector headquarters in Bandipora district.
The Northern Chief of Army was briefed about anti-infiltration measures put in place along the LoC. He was told that the militants are making efforts to infiltrate into Kashmir valley but the troops deployed at the LoC have foiled their designs.
Army commander’s visit assumed importance in the backdrop of the increased number of incidents of infiltration attempts by militants from across the LoC and ongoing ceasefire violations.
The Army has in recent past foiled infiltration attempts at various places in Kupwara sector, in which they have killed over two dozen militants in various operations.
The Northern Army Chief, accompanied by General Officer Commanding of the Srinagar-based 15 Corps Lt Gen Gurmeet Singh, visited a Rashtriya Rifles Sector headquarters in Bandipora district.
The General interacted with the troops who are involved in counter insurgency operations in North Kashmir. He commended the role of the troops in fighting the militancy.
