JAMMU, Feb 5: All J&K Low Paid Employees Federation (LPEF) has described the Union Budget for the year 2020-21 as deceptive which is utterly disappointing for the working classes and toiling masses so far as providing them some relief as the cost of living is becoming dearer in the face of rapidly raising prices of all essential goods of daily consumption.
In a statement, Abdul Majid Khan, President of the Federation, said that exemption limit for levying income tax should at least be raised to Rs 8 lakh per annum as annual income of `Economically Weaker Sections’ (EWS) has been raised from Rs 4.5 lakh. Moreover, he added, the pension and pensionery benefits to those whose annual income is up to Rs 8 lakh should also be exempted from levying Income tax.
Reiterating the demand for raise in the Medical Allowance to Rs one thousand from Rs 300 being given to State employees and pensioners, Mr Khan urged upon the LG’s Administration to provide Health Insurance cover or launch reimbursement scheme in their favour them.
Abdul Majid Khan also raised the demand for extension of 20 years qualifying service for pension retrospectively on Central pattern and strongly supported the demands of pre and post -2006 pensioners put forth by the J&K State Pensioners Association (JKSPA) in a memorandum recently submitted to the Lt Governor of the UT seeking prompt and positive consideration.
Mr Khan called upon State employees and pensioners of the J&K UT to rally round the Federation for getting their collective and sectional grievances redressed through persistent and protracted struggle expeditiously.
