SRINAGAR, Nov 18: Leader of the Opposition Sunil Sharma today said there is a “need for humanity” and that public representatives must stand with families affected by the November 14 accidental blast while calling for an additional risk allowance for the Jammu and Kashmir Police, saying the force works in dangerous conditions beyond normal policing.
Speaking to reporters in Kulgam in south Kashmir during his visit to the home of Crime Branch photographer Arshid Shah, Sharma said the outreach was being carried out on the directions of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

He said he and former BJP president Ravinder Raina are visiting the homes of all those who were martyred in the incident. “We are visiting these houses for condolences. We are assuring their families that the whole country stands with them, and the Government of India will extend all possible help to those whose youth sacrificed their lives for the protection of the nation,” he said.
He said the delegation visited the home of Crime Branch photographer Javed Mansoor in Tral and had already covered “almost all houses” before heading to Kulgam. “We were in a lot of pain sitting with their families. The accidental blast has caused immense grief,” he said.
Responding to questions on whether the Jammu and Kashmir Police need an additional risk allowance, Sharma said there was “no doubt” about the demand. “The Jammu and Kashmir Police do not perform only normal policing. While other states handle routine law and order, JK Police also carry out counter-insurgency operations. They are constantly working in dangerous situations and doing extraordinary work,” he said.
He added that the matter was already under the consideration of the Home Ministry. “We are hopeful that this long-pending demand will be fulfilled on time,” Sharma said.
