JAMMU, Dec 9: Former Legislative Assembly Speaker and National Conference MLA Mohammad Akbar Lone has called upon Speaker Kavinder Gupta to take suo moto notice of the police action against Independent MLA from Langate Engineer Rashid.
“We may or may not agree with the ideology of Engineer Rashid but the fact is that he is an MLA and the Speaker happens to be custodian of the rights of all members of the Assembly. In view of this, the Speaker should take suo moto cognizance of the police attack on Rashid and initiate action against the police officers,” Lone said, in a statement issued here.
Lone said the way Rashid was treated is bad thing and should be condemned.
“During my tenure as the Speaker, I never allowed the officers to take such action. As a former Speaker, I condemn the incident and want the Speaker to take action. The Speaker can even treat my statement as the complaint and take action,” he added.
