SRINAGAR, Oct 9: The state’s Agriculture Minister Ghulam Nabi Lone today said that Srinagar Airport should be named after revered Muslim saint Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Noorani and urged the Legislative Council (LC) to adopt the resolution for same.
Responding to a questioning during Zero Hour, Hanjoora said that in 2005 when he was MLC he had brought a resolution over naming the Srinagar Airport as ‘Sheikh-ul-Aalam International Airport’ and that resolution was adopted by House. But, he said, the Airport was not named after the Shiekh-ul-Aalam when it was inaugurated by the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
“Now I want this House to adopt a resolution to name the Srinagar Airport after Sheikh-ul-Aalam,” Hanjoora, who is from Central Kashmir’s Budgam district”, he told the House. However, the BJP MLCs raised the objection and proposed that the Airport should be named ‘Nund Reshi’ Airport.
