KATRA, Oct 27: Up in arms against irregular water supply in the Katra town for the last more than one month, locals held a strong protest demonstration and blocked the vehicular movement near main chowk, here today.
The protesting people assembled at Fawwara Chowk and blocked the road for more than one hour. They shouted slogans against PHE Department and the State Government. The protesters also torched an effigy of the State Government.
The protesting people said that water supply was affected from last more than one month but their issue was not solved despite repeated pleas in this regard. “Due to mismanagement of the PHE Department, the water crisis has deepened in various parts of this Katra town forcing us to come out on streets to lodge protest,” the protesting people said and added that despite repeated requests to PHE authorities, the problem of water scarcity was not solved.
The protester included men, women and children, who blocked the main road plugging all entry and exit routes thus causing tough time to pilgrims at Katra.
The protest dharna was lifted after SHO Katra reached the spot and pacified the agitating people.
