UDHAMPUR, June 7: Local of village Battal Ballian today once again protested against functioning of red category industries in the area, which are creating pollution and posing threat to health of the residents.
The protesting people raised slogans against District Administration and Industries Deportment. They were demanding that polluting factories at Battal Ballian should be shifted from residential area.
“State Government has allowed installation of about 15 units of cement and insecticides in this area thus posing danger to health and lives of around 15000 population here besides Government and private school,” they said.
It may be recalled that on May 27 late night, major fire had broken out in a chemical factory here, which could be controlled after seven hours with the help of Air Force fire tenders and helicopters. The District Administration Udhampur had evacuated people safely from the surrounding 10 km area as precautionary measures otherwise there could have been a major catastrophe.
The protest demonstration was addressed by DDC Udhampur, Sarpanch Sounthan, Sarpanch Rathian East, Rathian West, Sarpanch Kharooni, Sarpanch Fangial, Sarpanch Ballian, Om Parkash, Des Raj, Satvinder Singh, Sham Lal, Faquir Chand and others.
