UDHAMPUR, Dec 20: Aggrieved over unprecedented delay in construction of bridge approach to Siya Mari and adjoining villages in Basantgarh tehsil, locals of village Siya Mari held a strong protest against the PMGSY Department and district administration, here today.
The protesting villagers raised slogans and blocked the Basantgarh to Siya Mari road for around two hour. They criticized the PMGSY Department and District administration for their failure to construct bridge approach to Siya Mari village, which was sanctioned ten years ago.
Because of no approach bridge, villages like Chakal, Sia Mehri, Benjal Patyal, Korti, Baggan etc remain cut off with the result that around 15,000 population of these areas has been suffering. To connect these villages, a 5:3 km long PMGSY road and the bridge were sanctioned ten year back and work on the same was started in 2011. Pillars of the bridge were completed in 2012 and required iron angles as well as other materials for the bridge were also made available at the site but the work was stopped in 2013.
According to Attar Chand, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Basantgarh , the work on bridge was stopped due to shortage of funds with PMGSY Department. He assured to take up the matter with the concerned authorities for necessary action.
The protesting villagers were addressed by Balwant Singh Sarpanch, Dhani Ram Panch, Mubark Singh, Girdhari Lal, Baldev Singh Panch, Pawan Rassal, Ashok Kumar and Kewal Singh.
