UDHAMPUR, Apr 17: A protest was held today at Kainthgali Chowk by the residents of Panchari and Moungri against the PMGSY Department, highlighting the extremely poor condition of roads in the region.
A significant number of people, including senior citizens, participated in the protest. They expressed strong displeasure over deteriorating condition of the roads, particularly the stretches from Udhampur to Kainthgali, Kainthgali to Galiote, and Kainthgali to Bariote. They accused the PMGSY Department of negligence and lack of seriousness in addressing these long-pending issues.
It was highlighted that around nine months ago, the residents of Panchari and Moungri had issued an ultimatum to the department, but no concrete action has been taken so far. Several points along these roads have become highly dangerous for daily traffic, causing hardship to nearly one lakh people on a regular basis.
The protesting people stated that they will continue their agitation on a daily basis and will not remain silent until their demands are fulfilled. They also expressed disappointment with the local MLA and other leaders for not taking the matter seriously.
During the protest, representatives of the PMGSY Department visited the site and assured the public that the issues raised would be addressed at the earliest and necessary action would be taken soon.
The protestors issued a final ultimatum of one week to the PMGSY Department to resolve the issue. Failing this, they warned, a large-scale dharna will be organized at the district headquarters in Udhampur.
