UDHAMPUR, May 22: Up in arms against parking of Kashmir bound trucks on the National Highway at Jakhani, locals held a protest demonstration and demanded immediate shifting of these vehicles, which create nuisance for the residents.
The protesting people raised slogans against the Traffic Police and District administration for allowing these truck to remain stranded there while on way towards Srinagar. They said that women and children feel insecure because of the presence of these truck drivers and unknown people in the area.
“Even as the administration had recently announced not to allow the truck to be parked on the roadside at Jakhani and Sangur Chowk stretch, the practice resumed after a brief relief,” the locals said and accused the Traffic Police of encouraging this illegal parking at the particular stretch for greasing their palms.
“Government is risking the lives of the locals as drivers of these trucks gather and roam around here and there without following the social distancing norms at this time of COVID-19 pandemic,” the protesting people said and urged the administration not to allow the trucks to be stranded in the area.
